Building Latino generational wealth: progress, challenges, and resources

by Mónica Talán

Lately, I've seen a growing focus on Latino generational wealth—an overdue and necessary conversation. Leaders like Ramona Ortega have been driving real change for years through various initiatives including Thrive and WealthBuild.ai.

This week, I came across the 2024 State of Hispanic Wealth Report, which highlights both the progress we've made and the ongoing challenges—especially in education.

Other examples of initiatives making an impact include:
1️⃣ The upcoming Thrive Legacy Dinner in Houston, a space for meaningful conversations about wealth-building in our community. Learn more and sign up here.
2️⃣ Capital for the Culture is building resources, including this online community providing access to resources and financial tools for wealth-building. Sign up here: link.
3️⃣ Populace, developed by Michael Cervantes, takes a different approach to closing the wealth gap. Link.
4️⃣ Magnolia Fund in Houston, which is working to turn neighbors into investors, support legacy small businesses, and preserve the rich culture of East End Houston (link).

While we’re seeing important strides, there’s still work to do. If you know of other initiatives or resources supporting Latino wealth-building, let’s connect.
